Welcome to another issue of our weekly bulletin! Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered in the August 16th meeting and any other scheduled events. Two visitors, Dr. Mike and Dr. Laura of remedyflagstaff.com, attended. Our speaker was Dr. John Durham of Northern Arizona Volunteer Medical Corps.
Club Activity
President Meredith called the third meeting of the Rotary year to order at 12:02pm. Jeremy Baker led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Updates
Committee signups: President Meredith will be looking for Rotarians to fill important club committee and service roles. Please help where you can -- remember that our club only works when everyone does their part!
District Grant: Past President Carla announced that her district grant application was successful! This will enable our club's $1,000 to turn into $5,000 to work with John Taylor of Terra BIRDS to return the entrance of Ponderosa School back to its natural state. Rotary District 5495 will be granting $2,000 for the project, and a private foundation is providing the additional $2,000.
Service Projects: Immediate Past President Tonya reported on last month's service project at Camp Colton and reminded everyone about our upcoming September service project at Picture Canyon, this Saturday, September 10. Tonya is awaiting a few final details on timing from the City of Flagstaff -- more information coming soon.
Other Updates:
Theatrikos will be celebrating its 50th birthday this coming weekend, September 9, 10, and 11!
Thanks to Tasha for hosting our August social at The Bluffs! The Bluffs will also be holding its Grand Opening on September 8.
Mike Williams and Paul Wagner had some Happy Bucks to chip in.
Rotary Moment: Past President Eric Walden gave the club (after a few light group calisthenics) a reminder to stretch ourselves (see what he did there?) as Rotarians.
Program
Our speaker was Dr. John "Bull" Durham of Northern Arizona Volunteer Medical Corps (NAVMC). Dr. Durham and his team have visited Haiti on numerous occasions to provide medical and educational support to the people of Haiti. He also talked about the difficulties that NAVMC and similar organizations are facing given the governmental turmoil and numerous other crises in Haiti.
Wrap up and Rotary announcements
Mike Williams' ticket was drawn for Split the Pot. Alas the Joker remained elusive and the pot grew.
